1/3/2012 I stayed at the Ivory Towers backpackers for two nights. It wasn’t the best place I’d stayed in because the window in my room wouldn’t close properly, which to me, wasn’t very security conscious of the owners. They weren’t bothered by it though and said that anyone who wanted to break in, would need… Read more »
Trips To New Zealand
29/2/2012 After breakfast at Daneca’s Café, on Weld Street, I headed over to the Sock Museum. The weather was bad, but the rain had been forecast so I decided to do some of the indoor things like museums today before I get my bus to Fox Glacier. I checked out at 10am and left my… Read more »
28/2/2012 I had a great sleep last night as the bed was really comfortable. After breakfast I went into the Maori Heritage shop because the guy behind the counter said, that if you find any greenstone on the beach, which is quite a regular thing, to bring it in and the Jade carving shop next… Read more »
27/2/2012 Next door to the Mountain Jade Backpackers is the Jade Factory which creates jewellery and carvings of traditional Maori and New Zealand designs from greenstone. Hokitika is known for its jade or pounamu (greenstone) and is also a haven for other artists and carvers such as shell and bone carvers, potters, painters, weavers, gold… Read more »
27/2/2012 I hadn’t booked any accommodation for Hokitika and while I was in Punakaiki, I was trying to figure out where I was going to stay. I did some research online and also checked the Rough Guide of New Zealand which I’d brought with me. I wanted to stay in the Drifting Sands hostel. They… Read more »
25/2/2012 The best time to see the Pancake Rocks is at high tide, when the water crashes against the blowholes at the bottom and sends plumes of foam and water up in the air, nearly as high as the platform you stand on. It’s a twenty minute loop walk out to the rocks and blowholes…. Read more »
25/2/2012 At 6.30am my alarm went off and I got up reluctantly and packed the rest of my stuff. I walked down to the bus terminal and it was with sadness that I left Nelson. It was a great few days, especially with the whole experience of the Abel Tasman Walk. I was heading to… Read more »
24/2/2012 As mentioned in my previous post, I wanted to do a walk in Abel Tasman Park for charity, for Christchurch, but I didn’t have enough time to get sponsorship. But I did the walk anyway. The Department of Conservation told me that Friday was the best day to do it. The weather was supposed… Read more »
23/2/2012 The rest of my time in Nelson I just had a look around old favourite places I’d been to before and went to some new ones. One of these new places was the Geographical Centre of New Zealand, or reputedly known as such, which is only twenty five minutes walk from the hostel. At… Read more »
20/2/2012 I got the 8.30am ferry from Wellington to Picton and it was really busy. I was going back to a favourite spot – Nelson. It’s one of my favourite cities in New Zealand. I know I keep saying that I have favourite spots but there are four main ones: Kaikoura, Paihia, Wellington and Nelson…. Read more »
